All students will be required to complete the Waiver. This is needed to ensure that all students are aware of the risks involved in practicing Judo and that they are willing to accept these risks. In addition, we are able to communicate with students about cancelled classes or upcoming events.

It is required that for a student to attend completions, they must be a member of the National Judo Organization, USA Judo. This requires an annual membership fee (currently $100). This is also recommended as it provides insurance coverage for the student.

Communication

There are 2 Facebook groups and a Discord server. Also, there will be a weekly email sent to all subscribed members.

Attire

Students will be expected to bring a (clean!) Judo Gi to every class. Brazilian Jujitsu Gis are also acceptable, as long as it is not too tight or short.

Wear a Rashguard or similar under your jacket. It is recommended to wear shorts or tights under Gi pants.

Gentleman

Yes, you do not have to have a shirt, but yes it is highly recommended.

Ladies

Must wear some top under the Gi Jacket, either a workout short, rashguard, or t-shirt. Make sure to wear an appropriate sports bra. There will a lot of movement.

Hygiene

Basically, be clean, wear deodorant, and keep finger and toe nails trimmed. If you have long hair, keep it up or braided.

Etiquette

Judo prides itself on its etiquette. This includes bowing (rei) to the mat, the Sensei, and to your partner. It is also important to be respectful of your partner and to listen to the instructor.

Keep celebrations of scoring against your partner to a minimum. We should show respect even in victory. Now! If your partner does something well or catches you with a suprise technique, celebrate authentically and earnestly!
